The Game

3 on 3 Basketball is a half-court game. All games are self-officiated. This league is a 7 – 8 week season starting in March and ending in April. We will have both a Men's and a Women's league beginning in 2009.

Game Rules

  • Federation basketball rules will serve as the basis for all situations not specified below.
  • 3 on 3 Basketball is a half court game played by two teams of 3 players each including a minimum of three substitutes. Substitutions may be made after a basket or any stoppage of play.
  • All games are self-officiated. There is no fouling out. Fouls will be called on the honor system.
  • Teams are limited to a total of six players on the team roster with one being Team Captain. Teams will be divided based on an evaluation of each player on orientation night.
  • Each game shall last 40 minutes. If, at the conclusion of 40 minutes of play the game is tied, the next team to score shall win. After 20 minutes of the first half of the game will be a 6 minute half-time which the Team Captain will present a devotion to the team. No specific margin of victory is required.
  • For 51 + teams a game shall last 20 minutes with a half time of 6 minutes after the first 10 minutes of the game. Team Captain will present a devotion to the team.
  • All baskets shall be worth two points below the three point line. All three point shots will count as 3 points.
  • A “DO OR DIE” shot will be taken if a disagreement about a call ensues that cannot be decided by discussion. The player making the call will shoot the “DO OR DIE” from the top of the 3-point arc. If the shot is made then the call stands. If the shot is missed then there is no call.
  • Any game which cannot be completed due to continued disagreement between teams, would be considered a forfeit and the match will end effective immediately.
  • Possession of the ball shall change after each made basket (no make it, take it).
  • At start of game the visiting team shall shoot a “do or die” from the top of the “key” to determine possession.
  • The imaginary “check line” shall be the three-point arc around the court. A player must put the ball in play from the check line “top of the arc”. On defensive rebounds or steals the ball must be taken behind any point of the three-point arc. And the in possession of the ball may maintain control and attempt to score.
  • If a player causes the ball to go out of bounds or over the mid-court line, the opposing team receives possession at the top of the key.
  • Each team is allowed two time-outs. Each time out shall last no longer than one minute. Time-outs may only be called during a dead ball situation, or after a made basket. The forty-minute period for the length of the match shall continue to run during a time-out.
  • A match may be played with two players on each team and must end with two players.
  • If a team does not have the minimum of two players to start a match then the team is awarded a forfeit.
