The Daily Home Newspaper just published an article about our Eden Campus Student Pastor which featured Stephen Johnson enjoying work as student pastor at Eden Westside Baptist Church. We have truly enjoyed getting to know Bro. Stephen and his wife Kassi and am very excited about what God is doing through them here at Eden Westside.
The student calendar is full with many activities to support our current students and act as an outreach to new students.

Stephen Johnson enjoying work as student pastor at Eden Westside Baptist Church by David Atchison, Daily Home staff writer, firstname.lastname@example.org Jul 22, 2016 (0)
PELL CITY — This is the first summer Stephen Johnson has served as Eden Westside Baptist Church’s student pastor, and he headed into the summer in high gear.
“When school got out, it’s been pedal to the metal,” Johnson said.
Johnson entered his office quickly, wearing shorts, a blue short-sleeve shirt and a big smile.
“Each week, we have ‘Kickball Bible Study,’” he explained.
He said youths come every Thursday for a game of kickball or Frisbee, followed by Bible study. Johnson said he wants to keep the youth at Eden Westside busy during the summer, and it provides an opportunity to for them to “learn the word.”
Johnson, 31, took over as Eden Westside’s student pastor last September.
He is a graduate of Jacksonville State University, where he majored in broadcast communications. He is working on his master’s at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary at Wake Forest, North Carolina, through online courses.
Johnson is originally from Gadsden, where he attended Westbrook Christian School.
“I was called to the ministry in the summer after my ninth-grade year,” he said. “I knew I wanted to teach and preach.”
Before coming to Eden, Johnson served as a student minister at the Church at Chelsea Westover for about a year. Johnson said he is excited about being at Eden Westside and enjoys working for Pastor Jacky Connell.
“We really love it here,” he said. “It’s a great environment, and we share the same vision here.”
Johnson said Eden Westside has a full slate of summer trips and events for youths, grade seven through college age.
“We just finished middle school Vacation Bible School (recently),” he said. “(Also recently), we had Mission Camp in Mobile.”
“We are going to a (Birmingham) Barrons’ game in August. The last week of July, we are taking our college students to Haiti.”
He said 10 people will take part in an international mission trip to Haiti.
“I’ve been overseas a couple of times, but this is the first time I’ve been to Haiti,” Johnson said. “I am excited about it.”
Johnson said they will cap off the summer with a Back to School Bash, Wednesday, Aug. 24.
He said they are 60-65 students in the Eden Westside Student Program.
Johnson and his wife, Kassi, who is originally from Columbia, South Carolina, have been married 9 ½ years. The couple has three sons — James, 6, Jude 3, and Joah, 1. Johnson’s wife received her degree in early childhood development and elementary education from Anderson University. She is a stay-at-home mom.
Each Wednesday night, the youth group has Ascension Worship from 6:30-8 p.m. The church also has special youth programs on Sundays, including Life Discovery at 9:35 a.m., which is the church’s Sunday School program, student choir at 4 p.m. during the school year, and Discipleship U, Youth Bible Study Classes at 5.
Church services are at 8:10 a.m., 11, and 6 p.m. every Sunday.
